Lucas Romero

Biography

Lucas Romero is a trumpet player, producer, composer, and creative whose sound lives at the intersection of contemporary jazz, hip hop, and R&B. Born and raised in Fresno, California, he began playing trumpet at the age of 12 and quickly developed a deep connection to the instrument. Early on, he was drawn to the artistry and legacy of musicians like Freddie Hubbard, Wynton Marsalis, Ingrid Jensen, and Roy Hargrove—artists whose influence continues to shape his voice while pushing him to carve out one of his own.

A pivotal moment came during high school when Lucas studied at the California Institute of the Arts summer program, where he committed to jazz as a lifelong pursuit. Mentored by jazz guitarist Mike Dana, he honed his musicianship both on and off the bandstand. Along the way, he shared the stage with renowned artists including Tom Scott, Wayne Bergeron, Antonio Hart, Eric Marienthal, and Gilbert Castellanos, and earned over a dozen Outstanding Soloist awards from the San Joaquin Valley, Delta, and Reno Jazz Festivals—recognition that reflected both his dedication and growing command of his craft.

Seeking to expand his creative range, Lucas later moved to Los Angeles, where he spent four years sharpening his production and composition skills. He now calls San Antonio, Texas home, a city whose cultural depth and sense of community strongly resonate with him. Currently, Lucas is focused on building a supportive, forward-thinking artist community while writing and performing original music with his quintet—leading with curiosity, collaboration, and a steady commitment to growth.
